Hi, my name is Duncan. I am a collie / Akita cross, approximately 2 years old. I am one of the three lucky dogs who came to Vancouver from Alberta looking for a forever home. We are still a bit shy, but are starting to trust our new friends and are really loving all the attention and belly rubs we can get. Please read our story below and perhaps you will find it in your heart to offer one of us a new home and a new life. My adoption fee is $350.
A friend of an ABL volunteer from Pound Rescue in Alberta posted the following plea on Facebook. ABL agreed to take three of the dogs from this massive rescue in Northern Alberta. Please take a moment to read the story.
Recently I went out to a home 7 hours north of Calgary where Pound Rescue was asked to help with a large surrender case of dogs. When I arrived to the home in the middle of no where we were greeted by 50 wagging tails most of which were at the end of a chain. That moment is one I will always remember as it was so overwhelming the magnitude of help that was needed. Many of the dogs are extremely shy as they have had little human contact. One by one we met the dogs, took a photo and wrote a short description. Many turning away from us and trying to crawl under a bale of straw, while others were pulling with every ounce of strength in them to the ends of their chains in hopes they would get to give us a lick or get a chance for us to run our hands over their heads.
After meeting each dog we went and sat in the vehicle in silence. We had no idea what we were going to do and where to start. Who do we help first and where do they go? I made a few calls to our foster homes and to the groups we network with. We were able to make two visits to the property and have been able to place 20 of the dogs/pups into foster care. We are thankful to our fellow rescue groups who aided in providing some space for some of the dogs and of course to our foster homes who in most cases already had a foster or two at home, but managed to make room for one more.
Now 2 months in, we are still looking to help the remaining 30 dogs. Some pregnant, others in heat, some shy, some social, some petrified. We need your help. Please when you get an email about fostering share the email and forward it to anyone and everyone you might know, because for that one new foster home that opens up a space it means the world for that individual animal.
Next week I hope to go back up North to drive back with another group of dogs, but as it stands we only have foster space for 2. Which two do we pick this time around? Do we pick the female who is in heat? Or do we pick the old male guy who has likely spent 8 plus years on a 6 foot chain? But what about the shy girl who has likely never had the chance to lay their head on someones lap. Pound Rescue is hoping that we can pull together some foster homes so that in no time each of these adorable pooches can be cut from their life on a chain, free from the cold elements and be in a home where they get all the TLC in the world.
Let’s all try to come together for these helpless friends and start their New Year with a warm home.”
