Hi, my name is Basse (pronounced “Bassa”). I am beautiful 1 1/2 year old, Golden Retriever/Rottweiler cross.
I am a gentle dog by nature, but need to live with someone who is pretty dog-savvy. I need firm but kind, gentle leadership. I don’t do well with very controlling people. I do have a limit as to what I’ll take. Normally I don’t mind anyone or anything around me when I’m eating, but once in a while I have lashed out when I thought my food was being taken away from me. Therefore, I need a person who will not be afraid to remind me I don’t have to protect my food. I need my space – I sometimes get a bit anxious when I feel cornered, or confined. A home with a lot of room to wander and play would be best.
My favorite things are playing with my toys and going for long trail walks. And I am very smart. I completed two sets of puppy obedience classes and have worked with a trainer at ABL. I walk politely on the leash and am excellent at heeling. I know my commands and don’t need any treats to listen to you. (Of course I do appreciate the odd treat.) I haven’t met another dog I didn’t like. I am still a bit puppy-like in my movements – sometimes even my own feet get in the way. I can be goofy and clumsy and toddlers could get knocked over in my enthusiasm. Plus, I’m not used to being around kids, big or small, so a home with adults only would suit me best. I am very athletic and active and would love to be someone’s running partner. Trail running is my favourite. I also need a yard to romp around and play in and just be my goofy self. It’s not known how I would do with cats. It is very important that my new family continues my training, and ABL will contribute three sessions to my adoption!
