Hi all, I’m Alice. I am a 7 yr old basenji/terrier mix who is in need of a new home due to a change in my owners work situation. I am a very affectionate and I joyfully greet each new day with exhuberant tail wagging. I am great off leash and love to explore and run like the wind. One of my favorite things is letting other dogs chase me. My puppy-like nature and features makes a lot of people think I am just a puppy. But unlike a puppy, I am calm and relaxed once we get back home. I am happy to curl into a ball and nap until the next walk.
My owner says I am very smart and a quick learner. I loved going to obedience classes and I moved up to the advanced class very quickly. One of my favorite tricks is to dance on my hind legs. I can also roll over, shake a paw and lots of other fun tricks. I love “performing” for my family.
Food is also one of my passions. But I need to be careful about what I eat. I am allergic to beef and chicken but I thrive on pork and sweet potato. Speaking of food, one of my favorite places to go is our local Vancity Bank where they all know me well and always have a treat for me. I also get excited about visiting my vet where I am happy to be examined. The staff all love me and I greet them like long lost friends. I am great with other dogs and in fact living with another dog would be wonderful for me. I currently live with a cat so am good with them as well.
When I was first adopted by my current family, I had just come from a high kill California shelter. No one knows what my early life was like but it is likely I was tormented by pre-teen children as I am not comfortable around 9 to 12 year old kids and may growl at them. So I will need a home with no or older children and need to be kept on a leash if children are around. I used to be wary of strangers petting me but I have come along way since then and now I allow strangers to pat me on the street. (My owner says I am really cute, so lots of people want to do this). I suffer from separation anxiety and don’t like being left alone for too long so need a home where someone will be home most of the time or where I can go to work with my owner. My ideal home would be with a retired person or with a home with an extended family where a grandparent lives in the home and would keep me company while my owners are at work. My adoption fee is $200.
